Artist's Statement
The painted iris panel is 10.25 x 15".
The colors on this wall hanging is deep purples, lavender and deep greens.
It is painted on white cloth with deep purples and lavender cotton fabric
sewn around it. The petals of the iris and leaves are quilted and there are
frames quilted around it. The fabric around the iris panel is border
quilted.
I sketched the iris on paper and then transferred the sketch to the fabric
by outlining it with an iron transfer pencil (I will never do that again.
The red pencil stayed exposed for quite some time. It finally faded out).
After the pattern was transferred to the fabric it was placed on a piece of
absorbent paper to absorb any paint that may come through the fabric. Then
it was pinned to a block of Styrofoam to keep it rigid for painting.
I painted the iris panel with Delta Ceramcoat. After it was painted it was dried for about 24 hours and ironed on the left side. The blocks of fabric
were sewn together and quilted with a simple quilting stitch.
