Botched attempt at whole cloth quilt

This practice piece was one of my learning projects before I decided to attempt making my very first whole cloth quilt. Let's take a look.

This quilt was my very first attempt at creating a whole cloth quilt. I had no clue about a process of design and marking, so I was trying to do the best I could.

Trying to design as I go and mostly after the quilt sandwich was mounted on the quilt frame, was not a good idea. I also made a mistake during the execution of the design by forgetting to change thread color in the outer border. Because of the mistake, I ended up having to divide the design in order to make it one larger quilt as originally planned instead of writing it off as two separate practice pieces.

This is the first quilt where I had to stitch an overall background filler and I was nervous until I started. After two or three passes it was becoming easier and easier, never had any problems with stitching background filler ever since.

After this quilt was finished, I decided to make a 'real' whole cloth quilt for show, if I get it right! I had no clue about where to start, but I was determined to keep trying  until I get it anyway.

Although this quilt was a botched attempt at making a whole cloth quilt, it was a prelude to what has happened few weeks later...
