This piece was created just to see how much of a raised design effect can I create by dense quilting all the way around the main design motifs.
Once I experienced how easy it was to create this raised design effect by using dense quilting and double batting in the entire quilt, I decided not to bother with the 'real' or cut trapunto. I purchased this huge cone of the trapunto thread, tried it once and put it away for good. Almost 7 years later, it still sits in the drawer, untouched.

My favorite batting to use is wool--sometimes two layers in the trapunto area, and sometimes a cotton batting for the entire quilt. The nice thing about wool is all it takes is a little steam to revitalize the puff. Great piece!
