Before I started doing art I had no clue about how to draw or how to paint. All I could do was pretty much doing just 'stick man' kind of drawings, that's all. Unfortunately, I was not born with a paint thinner flowing in my veins...
Over the years I have learned how to do art from scratch by trying. If I never tried, I would never know that not only would I be able to do art, but I loved it so much that it became a passion which lasted many years.
This drawing was done in lead pencil.
This project was one of my very first drawings I have ever attempted after doing few color value studies and shading excercises. This is supposed to be an egg! There is a mistake in the shading on the very bottom edge of the egg. The shading on the very bottom edge of the egg should be darker and the reflective light is not depicted correctly, so it causes an undesirable effect.

This is an attempt of drawing a still life picture using a led pencil. And again there are few mistakes in the shading, as it was a learning process.
When you attempt drawing from life objects, all you need to do is study the object and try to depict the shape while paying attention to every detail, scale, shading, reflective light, cast shadow, etc.
I took two semesters in drawing and one semester in painting. That's all I needed in order to get started and continue on my own. If you want to try doing art, take a class from a great teacher. That is very important! Take a look at their art first before you sign up, because you might end with a teacher who strongly believes in minimalism and would try to make you see stuff where nothing is there!
